Your October Search Performance Report

Google showed the site 17,716 times in October, nearly double September. The next step is turning that attention into more phone calls, and the map pack is where that happens.

01The month at a glance

Search is growing again. Calls are the number we are working on.

The wins

Clicks up 62% and up 31% on October last year. Kitchen map rankings came back from position 16 to 4.3 in two weeks.

The issue

Calls were 28% below a strong September. Kitchen map rankings had already slipped by October 2, and every keyword dipped on October 16.

The fix

Bathrooms stay the planned focus. We rebalanced the services to bring kitchens back as a strong second, kitchen rankings recovered, and November's work targets speed, trust signals and the map pack directly.

03Google Maps

The map pack dipped mid-month and is climbing back.

Every week we search Google Maps from 49 spots around the Vancouver office, about 15 km across. Being in the top 3 at a spot means a homeowner there sees Alta Casa without scrolling.

Bathrooms are the planned focus this fall, and the site's pages and posts were built around them. Kitchen rankings had already slipped by October 2 (position 8.2 for “kitchen remodel vancouver wa”, from 3.0 in mid September), and every keyword dipped on October 16. We rebalanced the services, keeping bathrooms first and bringing kitchens back as a strong second, and kitchen recovered within a week (position 4.3 on October 30). Bathroom rankings are recovering more slowly (position 5.6 on October 30, compared with 2.7 in mid September), and broad “kitchen remodel” searches without a city are still well below September. Both are November priorities.

Where Alta Casa stands

Second on both Vancouver searches, half a position behind Rapid Bath for bathrooms and behind JDI for kitchens. Alta Casa has the only perfect 5.0 rating in the group, but JDI and Miller have about four times as many reviews. Steady new reviews are one of the strongest levers left for the map pack.

04Calls and form leads

Calls were softer than a strong September.

87 calls came in on the two tracked numbers in October, compared with 120 in September. Form leads held steady at 5.

Calls per week

The slowest week matches the October 16 map dip. Calls picked up again the week after.

Why calls dipped, and what changed

Bathrooms are the planned focus, and the site and Google profile posts lean into them. Kitchen searches dipped along the way: by October 2, Alta Casa had slipped from about 3rd to 8th on the Vancouver kitchen map. We rebalanced the services, keeping bathrooms first and kitchens a strong second, and kitchen rankings recovered the following week.

The tracked numbers count every call, from Google, ads and returning customers alike. Starting in November we are adding a hidden source field to every form so each lead shows where it came from.

05The real issue

Google is only trusting part of the site.

Our October review looked at every page Google knows about. The site has grown large for a local remodeler, and Google is choosing to ignore much of it. That spreads Alta Casa's strength thin.

Pages Google keeps vs ignores

221

pages in Google

385

pages Google set aside

Blog posts237
City and style pages201
Blog posts with no search visits in 6 months106

Too many similar pages

About 200 city and style pages repeat the same message with a different town name. Google treats most of them as low value, and that weighs on the pages that matter.

The www address shows a security warning

Anyone who types www.altacasanw.com lands on a browser warning instead of the site. A quick fix, scheduled for November.

Retired project pages

Six old project pages still get visits from Google and now show an error. Pointing them to live projects keeps that trust.

The homepage is slow on phones

Google's phone test scored the homepage between 31 and 56 out of 100 across several runs this week, and the main bathroom page between 37 and 51. Caching and moving the homepage video to a streaming host are the biggest wins.

06What we did

October's work, at a glance.

Every change is logged with the date, the page and the reason.

Strategy

  • ✓Completed a full search health review of the site: every page, every Google signal, every link pointing in.
  • ✓Rebalanced the service structure: bathrooms first, kitchens back as a strong second, garage, basement, ADU and additions back on the site.
  • ✓Set the service tiers and competitor watch list (JDI, Amplified Renovations) from our October planning meeting.

Tracking

  • ✓Connected calls, website forms, the map grid and Google search data into one monthly report, so every number agrees from month to month.
  • ✓Confirmed lead counts from the website forms directly, instead of the analytics estimate that overcounts.

Content

  • ✓Added five new bathroom service pages and kept blog and Google profile posts focused on bathrooms.

07The plan

November: fix the trust signals, then build on what is working.

These steps come from the October review and our planning meeting. Larger changes, like merging city pages, only happen after you approve them.

01

One secure address for every visitor

Visitors who type www see a browser warning. We will route every version of the address to the secure site.

NovemberScheduled
02

Point old project links to live projects

Six retired project pages still get visits from Google. Redirecting them keeps that trust on the site.

NovemberScheduled
03

Faster homepage on phones

Turn on full page caching and move the homepage video to a streaming host.

NovemberScheduled
04

Add GreenSky financing to the site

Financing up to $100,000 helps bathroom buyers say yes on the first visit.

NovemberScheduled
05

New project photos on the site and Google profile

Two new kitchens and the Hillsboro home addition, as soon as the photo folders arrive.

NovemberIn progress
06

Grow the Beaverton page

It is the fastest growing page on the site. More projects and reviews can push it higher.

NovemberScheduled
07

Focus the city pages on real service areas

Merge about 200 thin city pages into one strong page per real market.

08

Combine overlapping blog posts into guides

About 100 posts get no search traffic. Folding them into ten strong guides helps the whole site.

09

Review Google profile categories

Check whether recent category changes by JDI and Amplified helped them before we change anything.

What success looks like by the end of January

  • Bathroom map position back under 3 in Vancouver
  • Kitchen held in the top 5
  • Most of the site's pages accepted by Google
  • Every lead tagged with where it came from
